TODD BIERNACKI
I am a self taught sculptural artist making minimalist assemblages of found objects. Many styles of artistic expression inspire me, but Surrealism uniquely captures my imagination and is becoming an ever increasing influence in what I create.
Working from a minimalist perspective is particularly rewarding. Creating an image or story with only a few objects – and then puzzling out how to present it simply and elegantly, without distraction, is deeply satisfying.
Reclaiming and reusing material is fundamental to my efforts: in fact nearly 100% of the components of my pieces have had prior lives. A skull found in the woods, a broken motor core, a golf ball from the age of square dimples: nothing’s off the table if it has character and helps to create a narrative.
I hope you enjoy my art.
CAROLYN WILHELM
Carolyn has exhibited her paintings in many cities across the country. Trout Lake has been home for almost ten years, after she and Rabbi Rob bought land here in 1997. Carolyn taught oil painting, watercolor, figure, and portraiture classes at colleges in and round Portland for almost twenty years. She has a beautiful studio here in TL, and is joyfully working on drawings for Bijee Burns’ wonderful books about special dogs, The Dream Rangers Series. Her painting Soldier Series, about the process of healing from war, toured several cities in the U.S.
“Gratitude For Rain” the series displayed here was painted in late September of 2020. It is number sixteen in a Series of thirty-four watercolors, all with the same basic geometric underlying composition. The series is about the interconnections between things, images, memories, friends and family. Gratitude For Rain is in response to a summer in TL when the sun shined orange in a white, smoke-dense sky due to fires.
TINA MORRIS
Tina Morris's sculptures explore what remains after life has passed. Using mixed media, she combines animal remains with crystals that grow naturally into the bone, creating a compelling blend of nature and art. Her work reflects on the connections between life and death with a sense of balance and highlights the beauty in what remains.
